A
network bridge connects network forming an aggregate network from two networks
or network segments. Bridging is in the first two layers of the OSI model.
There are four types of bridging. Simple bridging involves only two ports and
the transfer of data between them. Multiport bridging involves more than two
ports and the transfer of data between them. Transparent bridging involves
routing and uses a forwarding database to transmit these frames across
segments. Bridging networks can cause them to slow down depending on how large
the networks are and how often they are flooded. Bridges however don't work in WANs but are still very useful in LANs.
